FOSSILS FOR SALE: INSECTS IN COPAL     Page One

Similar in appearance and chemical makeup to amber, but younger in age, copal is fossilized tree resin, commonly between 1,000 and 10,000 years old. When liquid, this aromatic and sticky sap attracted many types of insects, some of which became trapped within the viscous material. The degree of preservation is remarkable, with many of these ancient insects retaining every detail and color, even on their eyes and wings. Please note that the close-up photographs may—in some cases—show these insects larger than life size. Most pages also carry a full view of each specimen.
